Long time no blog! A few important updates

Ok, so I realize that I haven't exactly been keeping this up to date but bear with me, I'm a poor, struggling, college student with no money in my pocket and even less time on my hands. Something that all of you should know is that my mailing address has changed along with my dorm room (more on that to come). So, anyone looking to send me mail, gifts, or money should use the following address:

Brian Chitester
1999 Burdett Ave.
Barton Hall #3320
Troy, NY 12180

Things are going well here at school otherwise, I am now a proud member of the photo club and although I have yet to participate in anything with them I am really hoping to maintain my photography skills. I will also be joining Ground Zero, the underground arts and culture organization in the next semester. They are really an awesome group. I recently went to see two bands, Via Audio and Quixote, perform in the GZ basement and I was blown away. Art and music at an engineering school? Hell yes.

First Week of Classes

Ah yes, classes have finally begun here at old RPI and I finally have something to do with the extreme abundance of free time that I have had up until this point. Of the many classes offered at this fine institution I am currently taking the following: Calculus I, Computer Science I, Introduction to Engineering Analysis, and General Psychology. Calc is most certainly my least favorite of the bunch (why am I at a polytechnic institute again?) but Comper Science seems like it is going to be interesting. The one thing that has cought me off guard in class is the sheer nuber of students in the lecture blocks, my computer science class packs the largest lecture hall on campus to the brim; luckily we have smaller studio block as well.

As a side note, I am working to obtain a digital camera sometime in the next week or so. I realize that a mostly text blog can get a little boring and i hope to include lots of pictures as soon as I can. Thanks for bearing with me.

Overheard at RPI

While playing Hacky Sack with some friends outside our residence hall another group of freshmen walk by and from the crowd someone says,

"Oh look, Hacky Sack! I suck at that!"

College Is Fun!

Ok, orientation got off to a rough start but things are really looking up now. The rest of the freshman class is moving in as I type and I just met one of my roommates, Eric. I hope that we will get along, I'll have to remember to keep quiet every now and then, XD. Barton has filled up considerably and although I'm going to miss having the bathroom all to myself I think it's going to be way more fun now that people actually live here. My dorm room is now fully set up and, thank god, I have Internet finally. There is a barbaque later on today which I'm stoked for, hopefully I'll be able to meet some cool people there but if not the upperclassmen move in later in the week. Hopefully then I will be able to check out Ground Zero, an undergound music and arts club that looks really cool. Here is a picture of my desk space for you viewing pleasure (note the new Flight of the Concords poster):

Moving Out (In)

The moment of truth has arrived, I have officially moved it at RPI. The experience has been very disorienting, just days ago I was hanging out at Fisherman's beach and now I am in the middle of Troy NY about to start my social life all over again...basically. I sit now in the common room of Barton Hall, occationlly recieving and awkward glance from one of my future classmates. My room itself is empty right now and I suspect that I will be sleeping alone tonight since one of my roomates is on an overnight trip and the other hasn't even moved in yet. I'm looking forward to tomarrow because hopefully then I will start to make some friends. Right now this place seems deserted. I did meet a nice young man named Matt who is living in the dorm next to mine...I hope he likes indie rock because there is going to be a lot of it going through my wall over the course of my stay. The dorm's L.A. is walking by me right now whistling some classical tune that I forget the name of. He stops to talk to me a little bit about residence life and the college experiance blah blah blah and then tells me that he ought to be going. I suppose I ought to be going as well, maybe I'll take a walk around the campus and try to...ugh...make friends.

New Photos

Today I spent the early evening on a lovely photo-seeking bike ride to Nantucket town and back. I have to say I am very pleased with the results. I have to give credit where credit is due though, as I was influenced partially by some of Lili's atichoke dip pictures (you can check out the rest of her work in her photostream). Now, she may not have invented macro photography, but she does deserve some credit for her work, which consistently blows my mind. Otherwise there are some new black and whites there, some with color versions, all taken with my Sony Cyber-shot. Maybe someday I'll get my act together and finally purchace a digital SLR camera but, in the meantime check out my photostream.

3 Weeks To College

The moment of truth is drawing nearer with only about three weeks until I leave for school. I've been snooping around the garage checking to see if the old mini fridge works, it's a wonder why I haven't snagged that old thing before for my room but, there isn't exactly that much space left in there anyway. Everything else is all set, i just have to convince my brother to let me bring the xbox 360 with me which my prove difficult. I'm not even sure if i really need to actually, I haven't been playing it too much these days anyway but that's mostly just because of work. I've been drumming a lot more lately, hopefully I'll be back in practice by the time I get to school but I'm still a little rusty...time to play more rock band.
